We all fall into patterns of thought, emotion, and behaviour that quietly weigh us down. I call these spheres of distress— cycles that make life harder, distance us from others, and leave us feeling stuck.
The good news is that these patterns can be changed. In many cases, they can even be dissolved completely, freeing you to live more fully, without being held back by fear or negativity.
Each of us has unlimited worth and potential, yet our own thoughts and feelings can sometimes convince us otherwise. Without any medical diagnosis, many people still feel inadequate, irrelevant, or “not good enough.” They aren’t deeply depressed or clinically anxious, but neither are they truly happy. They exist, rather than live.
Life itself brings enough challenges — loss, rejection, disappointment, illness, stress. But when unhelpful thoughts and habits are added on top, suffering compounds. Sadness can trigger memories of past hurts; worry can spiral into endless brooding. With repetition, these cycles become easier to trigger and harder to escape.
Many people believe that if they just worry long enough, a solution will appear. In reality, rumination is not the solution — it’s part of the problem. Real change begins when we shift how we interpret events, reshape our thoughts, and act in new ways. This is the key to breaking free from self-perpetuating distress.
Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (CBH), together with other evidence-based approaches, offers practical tools to support this transformation.
“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.”
Charles Darwin
