Effective Communication Training
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is a way to help people navigate a broad range of mental health problems and emotional difficulties. As a practitioner who primarily uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Acceptance-Based Behavioral Therapy, my approach is active, directive, and collaborative. CBT involves working together to identify and change thought and behavior patterns that are keeping you from feeling your best. Through this method, we’ll explore how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence one another and work to develop more adaptive patterns. Mindfulness-Based Therapy encourages you to focus on the present moment in a non-judgmental way. It helps you develop a deeper understanding of your thoughts and feelings, learn to observe them without reacting, and ultimately gain a greater sense of balance and peace. Acceptance-Based Behavioral Therapy, on the other hand, focuses on helping you engage fully in your present circumstances and take steps toward the life you want to lead, rather than fighting to eliminate unwanted experiences. In our sessions, we’ll work together to create a safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental environment where you can explore your feelings and learn new strategies to handle life’s challenges. The goal is to empower you to respond to these situations with effective coping skills, ultimately improving your mental and emotional wellbeing. [Back to the top]
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness, sometimes referred to as a trance. During hypnotherapy, your attention is so focused that anything going on around you is temporarily blocked out or ignored, allowing you to explore deep-seated issues, perspectives, and memories in a new light. Hypnotherapy can be an effective tool for managing a range of conditions, including phobias, substance abuse, and anxiety, as well as aiding in pain management and behaviour change. [Back to the top]
Couples Therapy
Couples therapy is a form of psychotherapy used to treat relationship distress for both individuals and couples. It emphasizes improving communication, conflict resolution, and understanding within the relationship. My approach to couples therapy involves creating a comfortable, neutral space for both partners to express their thoughts and feelings openly. I’ll work collaboratively to identify and understand patterns in the relationship, resolve conflict, improve communication, and foster a deeper understanding and connection between partners. Conflict Resolution
Mediation is a process wherein a neutral third party (the mediator) assists disputing individuals or parties in reaching a mutually acceptable resolution. My role as a mediator is not to make decisions for you but rather to facilitate constructive dialogue, promote understanding, assist in identifying needs and interests, and help explore potential solutions. Mediation can be an effective means of resolving conflicts, fostering collaboration, and preserving relationships in various personal and professional settings. [Back to the top]
Coping Skills Training
Coping skills training is designed to empower you with the tools and techniques to handle stress, anxiety, anger, and other emotional responses effectively. The training focuses on adaptive methods of dealing with emotional and psychological challenges. This can involve cognitive techniques, such as challenging negative thought patterns, and behavioral strategies, such as engaging in physical activity or practicing relaxation exercises. The aim is to help you develop resilience and navigate life’s challenges more effectively. [Back to the top]
Effective Communication Training
Effective communication is the backbone of strong relationships, both personal and professional. My communication training focuses on enhancing listening skills, expressing thoughts and feelings clearly, understanding and managing non-verbal cues, and resolving conflicts effectively. This training can benefit individuals looking to enhance their interpersonal skills, couples striving to improve their relationship, and professionals aiming to communicate more effectively in the workplace. Bereavement Counselling
Bereavement counselling is a specialised service aimed at supporting individuals through the multifaceted emotional experience that comes with loss and grief. My approach integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, and Non-Violent Communication (NVC) strategies to offer a comprehensive and empathetic support system for you during this difficult time.
CBT helps you identify and challenge thought patterns that might be exacerbating your grief, providing cognitive tools to cope more effectively with the emotional weight of loss. ACT focuses on helping you engage fully in the present moment, accept your emotions, and commit to actions that align with your personal values, even in the face of the pain that comes with grief. Mindfulness techniques aim to foster a non-judgmental awareness of your thoughts and feelings, enabling you to navigate your grief with more clarity and balance. Lastly, NVC strategies can be particularly effective when communicating your emotional needs to family and friends, providing a framework for conversations that can often be fraught with misunderstandings or unspoken expectations.
In our sessions, we will work together to create an emotionally safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental space where you can explore your feelings, work through unresolved issues, and develop coping mechanisms tailored specifically for your grieving process. The ultimate goal is to assist you in finding a new sense of normality, in which you can honor your lost loved one while also taking steps toward emotional healing.
Like my other psychotherapeutic services, I offer bereavement counselling exclusively online. This mode of delivery allows for increased accessibility, greater flexibility in scheduling, and the opportunity to engage in therapy from the comfort of your own preferred environment. [Back to the top]
Rates
I am pleased to offer a complementary 60-minute consultation to initiate our therapeutic journey. My standard fee is £55 per 90-minute session for the following six sessions. This timeline is typically sufficient for addressing common concerns such as stress management, insomnia, specific phobias, and habit reform. However, should you require additional sessions, either within our initial intervention plan or as subsequent follow-ups, I provide these at a reduced rate of £40 per session.
For symptoms associated with depression, complex trauma, anger management, and communication skills training—as well as couples therapy, moderate to severe anxiety, and other multifaceted challenges—a more comprehensive treatment plan may be necessary. Such plans will be co-developed and mutually agreed upon with you by the second session to ensure personalised care.
All fees adhere to the Client Satisfaction Assurance, as outlined in the terms of service listed below. I am committed to your wellbeing and look forward to embarking on this therapeutic journey together. [Back to the top]
Tele-Therapy
I provide my services exclusively online. This approach allows for greater flexibility in scheduling, increased accessibility, and the comfort of participating in sessions from your own preferred environment.
Research consistently demonstrates that online therapy can be just as effective, if not more so, than traditional in-person sessions. The effectiveness stems from the comfort and convenience it offers, which can contribute to a more relaxed and open therapeutic experience.
Please know that your well-being and progress remain my top priority, and online therapy is a proven method for successfully navigating and managing mental health concerns. Rest assured that the quality and integrity of the services provided remain uncompromised in an online setting.
I hope this aligns with your expectations, and I look forward to potentially working with you. [Back to the top]
Hypnosis During Sessions
Hypnosis may or may not be used as part of the treatment plan. This depends on your preferences and the therapy goals agreed at the outset. A combination of hypnosis and dehypnosis, mindfulness training, and coping skills modelling and coaching are typically used in a flexible mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural approach. You may wish to refer to the page on Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy for more details.
Hypnosis itself involves two main stages, which are usually referred to as “induction” and “suggestions”.
During the “induction“, you are told to relax, focus your attention, and that you are going into hypnosis. I may, for example, speak slowly to you about your becoming imaginatively involved in an experience of focussed awareness, whilst peripheral distractions fade – hence you may, with eyes closed, concentrate upon the progressive relaxation of your muscles to the exclusion of external events and stimuli. This stage could last anywhere from a few seconds to 10 minutes or longer, and the goal of induction is to quiet the mind and focus its attention on my voice and guidance. This practice provides a readily accessible gateway to another dimension of consciousness.
The “suggestions” (or ‘Treatment Strategy’) phase involves talking you through hypothetical events and scenarios intended to help you address or counteract unhelpful behaviors, thoughts and feelings. You are invited to experience imaginary events as if they were real. The type of suggestions used depend on your unique challenges.
You may move forward or backward in time, rehearse coping techniques, learn to correct types of thinking and feeling prejudicial to emotional well-being, and behaviour prejudicial to physical health, confront, but not exaggerate, life’s problems whilst reappraising its potential, develop the ability to use self-hypnosis and perform “homework” tasks which emphasise your active involvement in the desired therapeutic outcome.
At the termination, cues for subsequent positive thoughts, feelings or behaviour (post-hypnotic suggestions) may be introduced or re-iterated.
Finally, you are gently returned from the hypnotic immersion – to the everyday consciousness with its diffuse and distracting stimuli. Now discussion takes place and the hypnotic experience is examined in order to inform and enhance future therapy sessions.
In some ways, hypnosis can be compared to guided meditation or mindfulness; the idea is to set aside normal judgments and sensory reactions, and to enter a deeper state of concentration and receptiveness. The experience can be compared to losing oneself in a book or movie—those times when the outside world fades away and a person’s mind is completely absorbed in what she’s reading or watching.
While most people fear losing control in hypnosis, it is in fact a means of enhancing mind-body control. Instead of allowing pain, anxiety or other unhelpful states to run the show, hypnosis helps people to exert more control over their thoughts and perceptions. [Back to the top]
